Dedicated blog renewal, and what happens if you stop

Nothing is charged automatically. We write to you before the date, and the blog does not vanish if you say no.

A dedicated blog is the only thing we sell that covers a period of time. The first payment covers twelve months from setup. This article explains what happens as that year ends.

Nothing is charged automatically

We do not store payment details, and we do not set up recurring charges. A renewal is a payment you decide to make, in the same way as the first one. It cannot happen without you.

What happens before the date

  1. Before the twelve months are up, we write to you.
  2. You tell us whether you want to keep the blog.
  3. If you do, you pay for the next year. The site currently lists renewal at $94 a year, and the terms say a renewal is charged at the price current at the time.
  4. If you do not, tell us, and we talk through the wind-down with you.

What a renewal pays for

Another twelve months of hosting, security, backups and monitoring. There are no separate charges for hosting top-ups, certificate renewals or maintenance.

Articles are not part of a renewal. They remain optional, at $15 each or less in a pack, and only when you order them.

If you decide not to renew

  • The blog does not disappear on the renewal date.
  • Nothing is removed on that date without notice. We contact you before anything changes.
  • On request, we provide an export of your published content so that you can take it elsewhere.
  • The copy, design and images remain yours. See Who owns the content.

If you miss our message

Because nothing is removed without notice, a missed email does not mean a lost blog overnight. If you think a renewal date is near and you have not heard from us, contact support with the blog's address.

To make sure our reminder reaches you, tell support if the email address you ordered with changes. Sending that reminder is one of the things we use your contact details for. See Privacy and your data.

Moving the blog to your own domain

You do not have to wait for a renewal. A blog that was launched on a subdomain we provide can move to an address such as blog.yourbrand.com at any point. We set up redirects so that links you have shared keep working and search engines follow. See Using your own domain or subdomain.

Blogs ordered for a client

If you are an agency and ordered the blog for a client, our renewal message goes to the person who placed the order. Agree with your client in advance who will decide.
